A.C.E. - request for trustees
Did you know that 1 in 4 people suffer from mental illness at some time in their lives and that at any one time 1 in 10 young people are mentally ill? Just like physical illness anyone can become mentally ill, but there are some environmental factors that make it more likely to occur.
While mental health services work with young people that are mentally ill there are many more young people that are not diagnosed as mentally ill but are emotionally unwell and unable to cope for short or long periods of time. Achieve, Change and Engagement (A.C.E.) works with these young people aged 11 to 25 to support them to build confidence and resilience and develop coping strategies.
We work with young people who have grown up with alcoholic parents, have been neglected or witnessed domestic violence or their family has fallen apart, and their main carer is struggling to cope. Many young people have suffered bereavement of a loved one that affects them badly. Other young people have suffered appalling bullying, and some get called names every day of their lives. Some young people have a physical condition that they are not coping with and singles them out as being different. Many have not developed good social skills and have no friends. For other young people, for whatever reason they do not like themselves or think they are worth anything. Others find that they are not coping with the increased stresses of today’s life such as exams.
We offer these young people, either individually or in small groups, a non-judgemental space to talk openly about their concerns. We then support them to identify what they would like to achieve and give them strategies, support and encouragement to achieve it. Sometimes with work parent, carers or other family members to support them and the healing process for the young person.
We are looking for people that would like to become trustees of our charity. As we are a small charity we want people that will become actively involved with the governance of the charity. We would love to have people that run their own business, have financial experience or experience of health and safety, quality control and H.R. Or any young people (under 25) who may also wish to become trustees. We are also looking for volunteers to join a fund-raising committee. Any help or donations would be gratefully received.
