Chamber Chat – John Lyon - ICS
We are all aware of the ever-increasing developments in technology and the flexibility this brings, which has directly impacted on how goods and services are delivered worldwide.
The Freelancing/Contracting world has grown dramatically over the last 20 years, fuelled partly by the tremendous growth in technology, which has allowed access to expertise and skills to global organisations from local sources. This flexibility has assisted the continuing growth of the UK economy in challenging conditions since the crash of 2008.
We must always be careful that the flexibility is not abused and legislation and regulation needs to support this. However, a growing number of individuals choose Freelancing/ Contracting as a way of working. They can deliver specific projects for clients and bring expertise and knowledge that ensures that both parties benefit from this delivery.
This growing network can choose to deliver services partly from their local area and what an area to deliver from, when we live in North Lancashire and South Cumbria.
We are seeing these individuals also starting to work in collaboration to deliver services, which is a great natural evolution. These collaborations may grow further to become employers of the future.
We often hear that individuals choose the way of working purely for monetary reasons, this is clearly not the case and this community chooses to work this way as it suits how they want to work in the 21st century. They have the technology to support this and the expertise to deliver first class services to clients. We need to embrace the flexibility, and support this way of working, it will support a growing and vibrant community in our beautiful part of the country.
