From Atheist, to Advocate, to President!
As the new President of the Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce I am hugely excited about the future of this area and the year ahead. It is an honour to be President in the year that the Chamber of Commerce celebrates 120 years of supporting and serving our business community. Over the last 120 years there have been some incredible changes in this area and it is important that we reflect on these and we remember the heritage of this area and the Chamber, but while we celebrate these, rather than continually looking back, my sights are firmly set on the future. In my new role as President, I would like to help grow a more vibrant, more diverse and more relevant Chamber to meet the needs of businesses where they are at in today’s world.
I have gone from Chamber Atheist, to Chamber Advocate, to Chamber President. If I can do one thing in my time in office then I would like to change the conversation from “why are you in the Chamber?” to “why aren’t you in the Chamber?”.
I first came to this area in 1991 on a 1 year student placement and have never looked back. Jointly we need to tell the world about what a great place this is to live, to learn, to work, to stay and to play. The inaugural North Lancashire EXPO is being held on September 24th and 25th – this is a great opportunity to showcase your business or just come along and see what is happening in our area.
If you aren’t a member yet we have a great 120th anniversary offer for new membership, just go to the Chamber website for all the details. Collectively we are stronger together and in a business sense the Chamber at its very heart, is about linking us and creating conversations. I absolutely welcome and encourage conversation. This is your Chamber, so get involved and have your say. Roll on the next 120 years!
