The Sowing Club – new initiative for socially disadvantaged women looking to start a business

Thanks to lottery funding a new local initiative, The Sowing Club, is starting for socially disadvantaged women in the district who would like to find out if running a business would be right for them.

The Sowing Club is a free, 4 session course, running over 4 weeks. We are running 2 courses in Lancaster and 2 in Morecambe.

The first Lancaster course starts on Friday September 15th and will run at Cornerstones Lancaster for 4 Friday mornings 10am to 12.30pm

The first Morecambe course will run on Wednesday mornings October 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th, 10am-12.30pm Lothersdale Hotel, 320 Marine Road Central, LA4 5AA

Who is it for? participants do not have to already have a business idea, but if they do that's great. They will finish the course feeling more confident about themselves and their skills and with ideas for the future, be that for employment or self-employment.

The aim of The Sowing Club is to enable women to become economically active in ways that is fulfilling. That, in turn, enables women to feel empowered, it supports local economic growth and that in turn improves the health of communities.

How can you help? There are many ways, including; *becoming a long term mentor for a woman who decides to start her business, *helping financially by sponsoring a woman through The Growing Club 12 month programme, which starts in April, * providing start up support such as business cards, websites, laptops...as these women have no start up capital.
