A lovely evening for a barbecue!
A sunny evening late August was the setting for the Chamber’s Summer Social! A BBQ and Beer at Lancaster Brewery tempted members of Lancaster & District Chamber of Commerce and their families to the Chamber’s first live event held in over 18 months. The evening, kindly sponsored by Handelsbanken, celebrated the change in Presidency and launched the Chambers Autumn/Winter events programme.
Jon Powell, Chamber President said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet so many Chamber members, old and new at the Summer BBQ. We gave our thanks to outgoing President Mal Garnett and heard about the important role we have as a Chamber from our special guest Peter Mileham OBE DL, former High Sheriff of Lancashire and ex-British Chambers of Commerce President. It is great that we can visit and enjoy the fantastic venues and hospitality that the area offers. I look forward to connecting with more members in the coming months as we transition back to face to face events.”
Studies suggest that face to face interactions acts like a 'vitamin' for depression so after 18 months of virtual Zoom and Teams meetings the world needs human connection more than ever. Communication face-to-face is much more effective as you can pick up the nuances, reactions, body language and emotions much more readily than online meetings. Additionally, the newer the person is in their working life, the more face-to-face interactions are important for employees to pick up work ethics and benefit from personal interactions and mentoring.
Helen McClure, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken in Lancaster, added: “We thoroughly enjoyed being out networking again and meeting some new faces and we hope everyone managed to take time out and enjoy their Fika!”
The Chamber are hosting a mix of online and live events and can’t wait to see you at the NEXT event! Don’t miss it, sign up to the Chamber newsletter: https://bit.ly/38dV8AW
