Chamber Chat – Steve Wood, University of Cumbria
Happy New year everyone – today, 7th is my first day back in work, full of optimism for the year ahead not to mention the shock of the alarm going off at 5.30! – It’s safe to say this year begins with a certain amount of uncertainty, the countdown to the big day and of challenges that are no doubt ahead of us mean that this year could be a defining one. That’s enough about LFC’s title challenge, we’ve been top twice in the new year and thrown it away so will this year be any different?
I’m not one for New Year resolutions but something about this year is different, I reflect on what I can do better, can I do more in work, can I get more exercise and can I focus more on what’s important in life.
I’ll have to mention in – the “B” word - Before I started writing I attempted to look at various economic forecasts and how the economy will fair. It is reasonable to say that challenges do indeed lie ahead. Depending on your viewpoint this is going to be a positive or negative thing for the UK in the long term.
While I’m being reflective, I think about what all this means for us in our area, what makes me feel positive is the way in which business and the community have come together to support the Lancaster City Region, we’ve seen this grow over recent years, last month’s launch of the Lancaster Story is a case in point, the potential for Eden’s new attraction in Morecambe is just one example of the great place we live and work.
So, here’s to a positive start to the year, all the best everyone – good luck in your personal and professional life in 2019.
