Chamber Chat by Jo-ann Harney

- Thrown in at the deep end -

I joined the Chamber team on 2nd September as their new Administration Assistant, a role previously carried out by Josh.

On my first morning after my initial welcome into the Chamber way of life from Vicky, I was thrown headfirst into the preparation for this year’s North Lancs Expo. From my first day, it was clear to see what a huge undertaking the Chamber takes on planning and executing this major two-day showcase and networking event for North Lancashire Businesses.

I have been contacting local schools and colleges and getting the word of the Expo out to local businesses, schools and colleges mailing out letters and flyers to all the Chamber members, making up exhibitors packs for the 100 plus exhibitors and calling each Exhibitor to check all their requirements are met and are what they expect them to be from set-up times to power requirements, tables and chairs etc. this has not only been a massive learning curve in all the businesses that the Chamber supports in the North Lancashire area it has also given me the opportunity to talk to a wide range of people and has given me a good initial insight into what the Chamber can and does do.

My background has been varied since moving to Lancashire 12 years ago, I originally started my career at Jaguar Cars in Coventry working my way up to the PR Department Launch Team where I had the opportunity to launch new Jaguars to the world’s media, working in some amazing places like South Africa, since moving to Lancaster I have worked in various roles from a doctors surgery to a car dealership, the University and finally in customer service for a healthcare waste disposal company, which I hope will help me in my new role at the Chamber.

I am looking forward to the new challenge of working with the Chamber and hope that my previous roles will in return bring something new to the Chamber.

Vicky Lofthouse, Lancaster & District Chamber of Commerce CEO said ‘I am delighted to welcome Jo-ann to the Chamber team and I am positive she will make a great addition.’

‘I also want to take this opportunity to publically wish our ex-colleague, Josh Rooney, all the best in his new role at Coolwave.’
