Chamber Chat with Nathanial May
Starting a new role in the middle of a pandemic
Starting a new role as a Manager at Azets Lancaster office during the middle of a pandemic has been a challenging experience, made worse by the closure of non-essential UK businesses. Especially as one of my main roles is forging and improving relationships with clients. Since starting my new role, I have not been able to meet any clients face to face and I have not even met my new colleagues yet.
We have all had to find new ways of working throughout lockdown, thankfully the company is the largest Top 10 regional SME Accountancy and Business Advisory firm in the UK, so they were fully operational remotely when I joined. This has meant they have provided all the systems, tools, and technology I need to be able to communicate with clients whether it be by Teams, Skype or Zoom this has allowed me to continue my work effectively.
Talking to clients over this time it has become apparent that the current way of working may well become the new normal as we all embrace the digital world and work in the cloud. Since starting this new role 6 weeks ago I have been helping businesses in the local area with meeting regulatory deadlines, providing support to for audit / accounting queries and ensuring all our clients are aware of all the services we can provide especially in these economic circumstances, including Corporate Finance, Banking & Finance and Restructuring and Tax Advisory.
I am very much looking forward to hearing what the Chancellor announces in the Budget this week to see how it will affect local businesses and our clients. We have recently held updates for businesses on the IR35 rules for the private sector and the introduction of the domestic VAT reverse charge for the construction industry. So, it will be very interesting to hear the budget outcomes, a full review of the budget will be available on our website or if you have any questions regarding the outcomes please contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
I look forward to meeting you all in person hopefully soon, all our events and insights are available here and please feel free to contact me directly.
