The recent heavy rains over the weekend have served to remind us of potential risks the wet weather poses to businesses located on the Lune and also at the bottom of Lancaster town. Heavy rainfall in parts of Lancashire resulted in the Environment Agency issuing 12 flood warnings and 13 flood alerts for parts of the county.
The recent weather should also remind us that we need to have plans in place to help make our businesses more resilient to future flooding. There are lots of online resources to help you such as: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/preparing-your-business-for-flooding
The Environment Agency, Lancaster City Council and Lancaster & District Chamber of Commerce are currently working together to create a flood scheme for Caton Roads Industrial Estates near the River Lune. The partnership have are making great progress and are now developing a business case for the scheme. Once this is complete they will be meeting with local businesses to ensure that the future scheme meets the needs of the local community.
We would ask businesses across Lancashire to remain vigilant, check www.gov.uk for local flood updates and call Floodline on 0345 9881188 to register for free flood warnings.
