Holiday lets and small business rates Covid relief - Harrison Drury

Many people are not appreciating the fact that they are eligible for business grants by virtue of owning holiday cottages, or other property assessed for non-domestic rates, such as stables, for example. Businesses will be eligible for the grant so long as they receive a non-domestic rates bill and the rateable value is less than £15,000.00. This is irrespective of whether they receive small business rates relief. People need to be aware that even where they do not consider a property to be a “business” they may still be eligible for the £10,000.00 grant.

In addition, if you can prove to a local authority that you should have been paying business rates since the CV-19 outbreak, you may well be eligible for the business grant. I know of 2 people who have raised this argument with their local authority and are now in receipt of the business grant. Clearly, there are other factors worth considering, but if there are start-ups who think they are not eligible, it is worth potentially raising this point with the relevant local authority.
