We currently seem unable to move away from any conversation that doesn’t involve Brexit. Don’t worry, I am not going to continue the debate here. The day to day does carry on, although I acknowledge that it is difficult to make some decisions given the current uncertainty.
There are, however, many things that are not receiving the attention that they deserve due to the current situation. The government, in the 2018 Budget, announced a reduction in Business Rates Relief for Retail Organisations that have rateable value of less than £51,000.00. The discount is available for two years, 2019/20 and 2020/21 and will reduce your rates bill by one third.
We know many high streets are struggling and this should help local businesses, but are they aware of it? If you are a business or know a business that thinks they may be eligible, you are advised to proactively contact your local council to first check your eligibility. Further information can be found online by visiting, https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-business-rate-relief/retail-discount.
I would hope that many of you are already aware of this discount on rates, but given our current situation, it wouldn’t surprise me to know you aren’t. This is just one, small example of what the Brexit debate has overshadowed. At best, we need to keep moving and not let the uncertainty stop us from making decisions.
