Looking to the future - Steve Wood
My last Chamber chat was in January. First few days back after the Christmas break and full of enthusiasm I acknowledged the uncertain times that were ahead of us, but at least we’d know where we stood come the end of March. That didn’t quite go to plan and we still find ourselves in uncertain times, in fact, even more uncertain as Mr J and Mr H compete to be our next PM, who will be leading the country and what direction will we be heading….we’ll have to see?
What positive crumb can we take from this? Well, quite a lot actually. We just get on with it don’t we. As a city region we continue to do business and put themselves on the map, the developments with Garden Village continue and great news about the UK Festival of Sport (more to follow) and Eden continues to offer real possibilities.
Separately, it’s also a time of the year again when many of are preparing for their summer break, while many are preparing for their future. Maybe they have completed their GCSEs and moving into the world of work or onto an apprenticeship, or continuing to do A levels and on to University all await nervously to see if they’ve been successful. This is a positive and exciting time, fingers crossed everyone gets what they want!
I also want to acknowledge the contribution of Alistair Eagles, the outgoing President of the Chamber. With him, the Chamber has proved to be a dynamic, vocal, relevant and importantly, respected part of the business community. His work and the work of the great team (V, J, G & J) now passes onto a new President, Mal Garnett. I’m sure he’ll continue the great work while putting his own stamp the Chamber, good luck Mal!
