Mandy herself has seen a shortfall in the number of quality candidates applying for jobs in recent months, and this means the candidate pool is much smaller now. Mandy feels there is definitely a skills shortage in and around Lancaster and this means that the expertise shortfall issue will become an increasingly dominant business issue. This means a very clear job description is key and a great benefits package is also an important perk to offer, plus as salary’s are rising this must be taken into account.
Mandy also feels using a professional recruiter is essential as they have a much wider pool of talented candidates to help fill vacancies and the experience to find the 'hidden gems' that will make a new recruit stay long term and help grow the business. However, she feels that flexible working will become much more important to attract experienced part-timers to come back to work and cover core hours that may be flexible in and around childcare, caring and other duties.
