SilverDoor is a booking agent for accommodation in over 100 countries worldwide. We have had a team here in Lancaster for some years and our search for a new home for our growing company began more than five years ago. It’s been no secret that we have struggled to find a large enough, Grade A office in the city centre. We were determined that the city centre was where we wanted to stay. It was important to us to be within walking distance of the station, and we believe that the city centre will only be a bustling, dynamic community if businesses remain here.
The sad fact is that many private sector companies have left Lancaster city centre in recent years in favour of out of town office parks, or moved further afield to Preston, Blackpool, & Manchester due - in part- to the dearth of high-quality office space in the city.
We purchased Charter House in January 2020; the building has stood, to all intents and purposes, empty and unloved for many years. We are currently in the process of a multimillion-pound refurbishment to create what will be the finest Grade-A office space in the Lancaster city region. We are creating numerous full-time, permanent jobs for local people in Account Management, Customer Service, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain Development, Technology and HR.
To us, 'Investing in Lancaster' means investing in bringing a disused building back to life; investing in highly-trained, professional people to want to make their careers and lives in Lancaster, who will invest in the local economy themselves.
We also hope and believe that the much-needed private sector investment we are making here in Lancaster will give other businesses the confidence to commit to office space in the city centre and act as a catalyst to stem the loss of skills and investment the city has experienced in recent years and help grow a diverse, vibrant and successful business community here.
We are lucky enough to have received invaluable advice and support from the Chamber, Lancaster City Council, the Lancaster BID, and many others, and we are delighted to be able to announce that we expect to be moving into our new home by the end of the year.
