Heysham power stations welcome two new Station Directors

– introducing Mike Davies and Martin Cheetham

As we step into spring and enjoy longer, lighter days and the promise of better weather, the Heysham power stations are pleased to confirm their own exciting shift.

This month, both sites welcome new Station Directors.

Mike Davies joins Heysham 1 from EDF’s Hinkley Point B station in Somerset, while Martin Cheetham moves to Heysham 2 after three years next door as Station Director.

Mike has been working in the nuclear industry for more than 25 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge to his new role, and Martin started his career more than 30 years ago as a Technician Engineer at Ferrybridge in Yorkshire.

A word from Mike and Martin:

We are both looking forward to embracing our new roles, meeting with the teams across both sites and supporting the power stations’ continued positive contribution to the local community in Heysham and beyond.

Through construction and operation, the stations have been part of the community for more than 50 years, and currently contribute more than £30m to the local economy each year.

We are excited to continue this legacy. EDF’s ambition is for the stations to continue generating safely and reliably to the current scheduled end of generation dates of 2026 (Heysham 1) and 2028 (Heysham 2), whilst exploring opportunities to safely extend these dates through comprehensive inspection led analysis.

We also believe that the Heysham site is a compelling location for new nuclear development. As well as land, grid and rail connections, supply chains and local support, there is a highly-skilled and motivated 1,500-strong workforce, which could support the operation of any future nuclear development.

In our new roles, we look forward to continuing the great work done at Heysham over the decades, through continued zero carbon energy generation and positive engagement with the community.
